Everybody knows Earth Day is April 22, but Earth Hour is this coming Saturday, March 27.

The premise is simple: From 8:30 to 9:30pm, the City of Somerville will turn off all non-essential lighting.

You can learn more in the Somerville Journal and Boston Globe. Last year, more than 4,000 cities in 87 countries participated.

Earth Hour is one of several green events the city has planned. Be sure to check our calendar to learn about others.

At Somerville Scout, we are especially excited for the upcoming B2Green Expo, scheduled for May 6 at 4pm at the Holiday Inn (30 Washington St). It’s a 60-minute session on “greening” your business, followed by two hours of networking with other green (and green-aspiring) business owners.

For more info on the B2Green Expo, you can contact the Chamber of Commerce, GoGreen Somerville or the city’s Office of Sustainability and the Environment.
