Calendar Highlight – the Folk Arts Quartet
Folk Arts Quartet: Ivonne Hernandez, Liz Davis Maxfield, Jenna Moynihan and Lea Kirstein.
- The Folk Arts Quartet will perform at the Unity Church of God in Davis Square (6 William Street) this Friday at 8pm.
The performance was organized by NotloB Folk Concerts. Established in 2007, NotloB is an organization that aims to bring the best local and touring roots, blue/newgrass, traditional and contemporary folk, Celtic, and blues artists to audiences. They have shows in Jamaica Plain at the Loring-Greenough House and in Newton at the Jackson Homestead in addition to the Somerville venue. All of the concerts are volunteer-run and not-f0r-profit.
Friday’s concert features Folk Arts Quartet, a group that “breaks musical molds by fusing the worlds of folk and chamber music to produce a cross-over genre they call ‘ChamberGrass.’” Combining innovation and edge with a solid understanding of classic compositions, Folk Arts Quartet performs original songs as well as traditional Celtic and folk selections. Their current lineup is Liz Davis Maxfield on cello, Ivonne Hernandez and Jenna Moynihan on fiddle, and Lea Kirstein on viola.
Suggested minimum donation is $12 at the door and $10 if a reservation is made at least 24 hours in advance. It is $10 for students (with ID) and seniors and $5 for children under 13. Email notlobreservations@gmail.com for reservations.
