Spring 2011 Contest Winner

Patrick Trant’s winning entry was randomly drawn from the record-setting 84 correct answers we received.

Patrick knew — as did most of you — that the photograph of a dark green awning labeled “Eat-In Take-Out Delivery” belonged to none other than Mike’s Food & Spirits (9 Davis Sq).

How did he know? Mainly because he’s lived in Somerville all his life. A 2011 grad of Somerville High School (SHS, 81 Highland Ave) who lives with his family in the Ten Hills neighborhood, Patrick assumed that our picture was of Mike’s Awning, but he wasn’t 100 percent sure. He did a Google search to double-check before sending in his entry. The Google search didn’t help him; only a few days later, when he was hanging out in Davis Square with a few friends, did he know for sure.

Currently employed at Roffi Salon on Newbury St in Boston, Patrick graduated from the vocational program at SHS with a degree in cosmetology. In the fall he is attending Lassell College in Newton, Mass., where he will study fashion design. Asked what he will do with his $50 prize, Patrick responds, “Clothes. New Clothes.” He also wants to visit Manhattan — “the fashion capital of the world,” he says — both to buy clothes for himself and to ge some ideas for the fashion designing he’ll pursue in the fall.
